World Character Competencies Congress (WCCC-2024)

Theme:

“Character Competencies: Nurturing Virtuous Citizens in a Changing World”

Dear Esteemed Colleagues and Researchers,

Introduction: Character Competencies are fundamental to human development and societal well-being. The inaugural Biennial World Character Competencies Congress (WCCC) in 2024 aims to bring together global thought leaders, researchers, educators, policymakers, and practitioners in the field of character development to exchange ideas, share research findings, and chart a course for promoting character competencies in our rapidly changing world. Hosted in Hyderabad, India, from November 5th to November 9th, 2024, this groundbreaking event will serve as a platform for collaboration and innovation in character education. However, the present educational system often overlooks the critical aspect of character education, as it may not align with the prevailing priorities of both public and private educational institutions. Character, however, stands as a unique amalgamation of good intentions, life experiences, and positive influences. Character education encompasses a multifaceted realm of acquired competencies, equipping students on their journey to find meaning, purpose, and fulfillment in life.

We propose a gathering of educators, educational policymakers, and officials, aiming to provoke thoughtful reflections on the current state of education. In doing so, we endeavor to address questions that often remain unasked, such as the fundamental purpose of education itself. If character holds a pivotal role in education, we must look beyond the mere content of education. Strategies like role-playing and Socratic discussions have demonstrated their effectiveness in bringing about transformative educational outcomes. Throughout this event, we will showcase best practices from international educators, drawing upon their wealth of experience and educational resources to inspire and offer adaptable models.

This congress provides a platform for engaging in essential discussions, such as: What is the true purpose of education? Why should Character Education be an integral part of our educational systems? What pedagogical approaches effectively nurture character development? What insights, experiences, and outcomes can we gather from different countries to enhance our understanding of character education?

In the context of our nation, India, as the world’s largest democracy, we face a significant responsibility in preparing virtuous citizens who can contribute effectively and efficiently to the functioning of our democracy. While it’s noteworthy that the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has included an Ethics, Integrity, and Aptitude Test in its recruitment process for Civil Servants, it raises the question of why Character Education is not incorporated at the school, college, and university levels, as well as in all competitive examinations. We have welfare programs and policies for various segments of society, from tribal and backward classes to women, children, and employees. However, we must ask ourselves why we do not have dedicated policies and programs for character development. The well-being of our nation is intricately tied to the character of its citizens, making it essential to explore how we can nurture respect, responsibility, and productivity in our children and students, ensuring they give back to society.

To better understand the core issues plaguing our educational institutions, we must delve into questions like: What is the true purpose of schools, colleges, and universities? What are the prevalent challenges within our educational systems, both in India and across the globe? How do students and individuals cope with adversity, failure, and life’s inevitable misfortunes? Why do families, schools, and universities often fall short in cultivating citizens of character? Tragically, we also need to address the alarming rise in campus suicides and bullying incidents. These issues demand solutions that can only emerge from honest discussions and a collective commitment to building stronger families and communities.

Furthermore, we must confront the unsettling increase in corruption, violence, and crime within our society, along with the transformation of some universities into conflict zones. These issues serve as stark reminders that character education isn’t just an educational endeavor; it is a societal imperative. Through the World Character Competencies Congress-2024, we aim to initiate these crucial dialogues and explore actionable solutions for a more morally grounded and harmonious society.

We are delighted to announce the Call for Papers for the World Character Competencies Congress (WCCC-2024) hosted by the International Institute of Character Competencies.  This prestigious event aims to bring together scholars, researchers, educators, and practitioners from around the world to share insights and discoveries related to character competencies and their profound impact on individuals and society.
